To mark the 25th anniversary of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, the University of East Anglia (UEA), which leads the Tyndall Centre, is holding its largest ever climate conference. Many of the brightest minds on climate change are attending to discuss the ‘critical decade for climate action’ ahead of us and to discuss what university research needs to happen in the next five years that is truly useful for climate change action.
The Tyndall Centre is the UK’s first interdisciplinary and policy-relevant climate change research centre. It is a partnership of universities led by UEA that was set up in 2000 to conduct cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research, bringing together researchers from the social and natural sciences with engineering to develop sustainable responses to climate change. It works with leaders from the public and private sectors to promote informed decision-making on mitigating and adapting to climate change.
The planet and its people are at a crossroads. The coming decade is critical if we are to achieve the progress necessary to address the climate challenge.
The four research themes to be addressed at the conference are:
- Identifying the emergent and urgent transitions in this ‘critical decade’
- Understanding the different constellations of options that could align our emissions with the Paris temperature and equity commitments
- Highlighting the barriers and enablers to delivering climate action at scale
- How to build and sustain coalitions for action in an increasingly fragmented and climate-changed world
