The attraction of being based at Norwich Research Park has increased as the community has grown. With more companies emerging from the research undertaken at the world-leading institutes on campus and the opportunities to collaborate with the scientist community, that includes the university and hospital, it makes a lot of sense for start-ups, smaller operations and companies new to the UK to take office space here.
Enterprise House has been re-designed to cater for just those sorts of businesses. The newly refurbished building has 11 small offices that are available for rental, ranging from single person to 10-person spaces which can be leased on flexible, ‘easy-in, easy-out’ terms.
It is an ideal location for growing companies that want to benefit from the Norwich Research Park address and be an active member of the thriving campus community. Since it reopened in February 2024, it’s been an undoubted success for the tenants based there. They have built their own supportive and social community where the different businesses collaborate and share ideas.
The building itself is open 24/7 with a secure keycard system, has a smart reception and arrival area and provides a large, shared kitchen with dining table and informal workspace, ideal for a ‘coffee and a chat’. There is access to a secluded back garden with outdoor seating, superfast broadband, three bathrooms and plenty of free parking.
Enterprise House hosts a number of diverse business including Grindeks Kalceks UK, the UK arm of a Latvian-based pharmaceutical company. It supplies active pharmaceutical ingredients and prescription medicines to over 100 countries and in the UK it works with the NHS, private healthcare and third-party distributors.
General manager, Julie Worth, said, “We moved to our first office at Enterprise House in January 2024. We had clear criteria for the ideal site – it had to have a sense of community, have other businesses that shared common goals and values and offered the opportunity for growth. As a start-up in the UK, we needed to keep costs low while finding a location that met all our needs. Enterprise House has exceeded our expectations.
“What we particularly like is the opportunity to network with the other like-minded tenants. Even the simple act of meeting in the communal kitchen, when making a coffee can be advantageous. For instance, we met James McNeilly from Integral Pharma Solutions when he moved in and he is now a supplier of ours for drug safety services. And the free parking is a real bonus.
“We have also benefited from the networking and training events that are put on across the campus, being based on an internationally credible research and innovation campus and being part of a community of over 30 businesses. The close proximity to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and the University of East Anglia, is great for work experience students. And being so close to the A11 means we can quickly travel to other parts of the region.”
Being a tenant at Enterprise House gives you access to a number of additional benefits that are offered to all Norwich Research Park tenants that include a full event programme consisting of business, social and sports events. There is on-site dedicated support from the Anglia Innovation Partnership campus management team and close proximity to the technology platforms and expertise at the research institutes and UEA.
Tenants can also use the facilities at Centrum and the Innovation Centre which include cafes, a restaurant, meeting rooms and some great outdoor space that are ideal for meetings or social gatherings in the summer months.
John Colyer, CEO of Badrilla, a life science reagents company with six employees that moved into Enterprise House in March 2025, said, “The accommodation is ideal for us with easy access for staff and visitors and on-site parking. The other tenants are similar high tech medical/research focused companies. The Anglia Innovation Partnership team made the process of becoming a tenant simple and swift. Since we have been here, the social calendar has proved to be a real bonus that we hope to take full advantage of in the coming months.”
At the main Centrum car park there are 10 electric vehicle charging points and free visitor car parking as well as Amazon lockers and a Beryl Bike hire station.
On-site childcare is provided by the Chestnut Nursey next door to Enterprise House and close by is the UEA SportsPark with all of the sports facilities you’d expect.
Integral Pharma Solutions is a recent start-up that provides strategic consulting and lifecycle services for the pharmaceutical industry in areas of drug development, regulation, pharmacovigilance and quality standards.
Managing director, James McNeilly, said, “Enterprise House appealed because it gave me the chance to network with other scientists and like-minded people on the Park’s campus. I want to grow the presence of pharma in Norfolk and think the talent pool of science graduates and medical researchers at the university is a largely untapped opportunity.
“The really great thing about Enterprise House is that we have very quickly built up strong relationships with the other tenants – indeed Grindeks have actually become a client! I also made contact with UEA to talk about my business and have ended up securing a contract to lecture there.
“I really enjoy and appreciate the entrepreneur masterclasses and events that Anglia Innovation Partnership put on for the tenants. It gives us a number of great opportunities to meet new people and establish meaningful connections. And, I can actually walk to work from home which is a very pleasant commute that not many people can enjoy!”
Norwich Research Park itself is only a 15 minute drive from Norwich city centre, 5 minutes’ drive from the A11/A47 intersection (the main routes to London and the Midlands respectively) and also has very good bus links. Norwich is a vibrant, walkable city with a huge number of historical locations, shopping centres, restaurants, bars nightlife and entertainment.
