Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) are one of seven Research Councils funded by the Government's Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
BBSRC invested £498 million in world-class bioscience in 2017-18. We support around 1,600 scientists and 2,000 research students in universities and institutes across the UK.
BBSRC is part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), a new body which works in partnership with universities, research organisations, businesses, charities, and government to create the best possible environment for research and innovation to flourish. UKRI brings together the seven Research Councils, Innovate UK and a new organisation, Research England. UKRI aim to maximise the contribution of each of their component parts, working individually and collectively. They work with partners to benefit everyone through knowledge, talent and ideas.
